Preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections are progressing smoothly, with all necessary measures being implemented to ensure a fair, festive, and credible voting process, said Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor to the interim government.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Monday, Jahangir said that election preparations are “very good” and proceeding as planned. He highlighted that all security forces are continuing their training, which is expected to conclude by January, and various measures are being taken to maintain order and fairness during the polls.
“Law and order forces will be equipped with body cameras at polling stations, and uninterrupted power supply will be ensured at all centers,” he said.
Jahangir acknowledged that expectations for a complete halt of crime before the elections are unrealistic. “I do not have any magic wand that can stop all crime immediately,” he noted, emphasizing that occasional incidents may still occur despite robust preparations.
Regarding political participation, he noted that all parties, including the Jatiya Party, are now active in the field, although some continue to operate from their offices or face internal challenges.
In a related development, the advisor confirmed that strict orders have been issued to apprehend those responsible for the murder of a freedom fighter and his wife in Rangpur, underscoring the government’s commitment to law and order in the lead-up to the elections.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury concluded that the authorities remain focused on creating conditions for a peaceful, orderly, and transparent electoral process.
