Germany expects Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections to be free, fair, acceptable and participatory, German Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz said on Wednesday. Speaking at the DCAB Talk hosted by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club, the ambassador emphasized the importance of broad voter engagement and a peaceful campaign period.
“We expect the elections to be free, fair, acceptable and participatory. We also expect a high voter turnout,” Dr. Lotz said. He added that the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh has also expressed expectations of a 60 percent voter turnout. “Our hope is that the level of political violence during the election campaign will remain low,” he noted.
The event was chaired by DCAB President AKM Moinuddin, with General Secretary Arifuzzaman Mamun also speaking.
