The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in the capital Dhaka and surrounding districts to maintain overall law and order and ensure public safety.
This was confirmed by Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer of the BGB headquarters on Wednesday.
He stated that a total of 14 BGB platoons have been deployed across Dhaka and nearby districts. Of these, 12 platoons are stationed in Dhaka, while one platoon each has been deployed in Gazipur and Narayanganj.
Meanwhile, incidents of arson and cocktail bomb explosions on buses and vehicles in Dhaka and other parts of the country have caused panic among the public.
However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali reassured that there is no reason to worry in the capital.
He said that a banned group is attempting to create unrest by misusing social media. In recent days, the DMP has arrested 552 people in connection with cocktail bomb explosions, vehicle arson, and flash protests in Dhaka. Most of the arrested individuals came from outside the capital. Attacks have been carried out by people wearing helmets and masks, and minors have also been used in these activities.
The DMP Commissioner urged the residents of Dhaka not to provide shelter to strangers.
He advised citizens to inform the police if they notice suspicious individuals or when lending their vehicles to outsiders. According to the police, buses with fewer passengers have been targeted more frequently for arson.
In this situation, the authorities are seeking public cooperation to help curb the activities of saboteurs, emphasizing that the people of Dhaka will play a key role in resisting such acts of violence.
