Panchagarh, the country’s northwestern border district, is steadily ushering in the early signs of winter as temperatures continue to drop.
Chilly winds sweep through the mornings and evenings, while a fine layer of dew settles over the fields and open spaces.
According to the Tentulia Weather Office, the lowest temperature in Tentulia of Panchagarh district was recorded at 12.8°C at 6:00 am on Wednesday. The previous day (Tuesday), the temperature at the same location was 14.5°C, meaning the temperature dropped by nearly 2°C in just one day.
The humidity in the air was 99%, resulting in a blanket of dense fog covering the surroundings from early morning. The fields, rural areas, and even the town roads were shrouded in white mist. As visibility dropped to just a few feet, vehicles were forced to move with their headlights on.
The weather office also stated that the fog is likely to persist from evening until 10:00 am, and in some areas, fog might remain even during the day due to high moisture content in the air. Because of this, sunlight fails to reach the ground properly, causing temperatures to drop quickly at night and thick fog to form at dawn. Such weather is typically observed during the transition between autumn and winter, but climate change has become a major contributing factor.
Jitendranath Roy, acting officer of the Tentulia Weather Observation Center, said, “The temperature is gradually decreasing. By the end of November, a mild cold wave may sweep through the region. Throughout December, several cold waves are expected to affect Panchagarh and surrounding areas.”
