Commerce advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin said our main objective is to work in the interest of consumers and not to restrict trade.
He said this at a meeting with edible oil DO traders at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
The Trade Advisor said, “Facilitating local and international trade is the main task of this ministry. We have no shortage of efforts to implement it.”
Addressing the edible oil DO traders, he said, your contribution is important in the supply of edible oil. I want your advice and cooperation to keep the market stable.
The advisor mentioned the consumers and said, "Naturally, I and my ministry will work in the interest of consumers. I will do whatever the people of the country need. I expect you (DO traders) to stand by the people of the country and us by providing cooperation and advice in that work. All steps will be taken to establish the rights of consumers in the market.”
He also warned that he will not see who will be in favor of the step and who will be against it.
He also said, “In the conventional way, raids are conducted only at retail or medium sales centers to control the oil market. That is why these raids are not very successful. In the supply chain of any product, starting from the production or import stage, all DO traders, wholesalers and retailers should be brought under our activities.”
Edible oil DO traders complained of not receiving products from mill owners on time and demanded a solution to this problem.
