Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that no national election can be held without establishing the legal basis of the July Charter and the proposed referendum.
“Those who refuse to accept the July Charter will not be allowed to hold any election in 2026.”
He came up with the observation while addressing a rally of eight like-minded parties at Dhaka’s Paltan area on Tuesday afternoon.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “In democracy, it is the majority that decides-not any individual party. Victory will belong to the people.”
He vowed to continue working to realize the people’s demands and announced that the next course of action would be declared soon, urging all to join the movement.
The rally, which began at 2:00 pm, was organized to press for a five-point demand including a constitutional order to implement the July National Charter, introduction of the proportional representation (PR) system, ensuring a level playing field for all in the election, visible justice for oppression, killings, and corruption, and banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
