The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has formed a special monitoring cell to curb fake information, misleading content, and rumours ahead of the upcoming national election slated for February next year.
The new unit will keep round-the-clock watch on online platforms and social media, verify content, and ensure the authenticity of circulating information.
To strengthen its operations, the NCSA will work in coordination with the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser, Press Information Bangladesh (PIB), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and various law enforcement agencies.
The agency has urged citizens to verify the source of any information before sharing it on social media.
People have also been requested to immediately report any suspicious, provocative, or anti-state content to authorities.
The NCSA cautioned the public not to fall for deceptive campaigns by anti-state groups and to avoid spreading fabricated messages, photo cards, and videos, while helping raise awareness within their communities.
To ensure quick assistance in cybercrime-related issues, a 24/7 helpline has been launched. Four separate email addresses are now available for filing specific complaints:
- Online gambling: [email protected]
- Misinformation or rumours: [email protected]
- Fake profiles, harmful content, or online harassment: [email protected]
- Cyberattacks on Critical Information Infrastructure (CII): [email protected]
The NCSA has called for collective effort from citizens to keep Bangladesh’s digital sphere safe, responsible, and secure.
