Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Sunday that the government's earlier plan to withdraw 50% of Army personnel deployed with executive magistracy powers from the field will not be implemented.
He made the statement while speaking to journalists after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Brig Gen Dewan Mohammad Monzur Hossain, director of the Military Operations Directorate (MOD), said during a press briefing that the Army had received a government directive to withdraw 50% of its members from field duty and would act on it based on the prevailing law and order situation.
"We have received the letter regarding the withdrawal, and, accordingly, we will take necessary measures keeping the law and order situation in consideration," Brig Gen Monzur Hossain added.
When asked about the 13 November Dhaka lockdown programme announced by the Awami League, whose activities remain banned, Adviser Jahangir said, "There is no cause for concern."
