A new initiative titled “Youth Basic Self-Defense Training Project”, undertaken by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and implemented by the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), was officially started on Sunday, reports the Daily Sun.
The program began at the Dhaka BKSP campus, with Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as the chief guest. He highlighted the government's commitment to empowering youth through physical and psychological development.
“The government has undertaken this two-and-a-half-year project with an allocation of Tk27 crore to provide self-defense training for the youth. Under this project, a total of 8,850 trainees will receive training through seven regional BKSP centers across the country.” Asif Mahmud stated.
The event was also attended by BKSP Director General Brigadier General Md. Munirul Islam, along with guests and senior officials from BKSP and the Ministry.
The training will cover four core disciplines: Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, and Airgun Shooting, designed to promote self-confidence, physical balance, discipline, self-control, fitness, and positive behavioral change among participants.
The 15-day residential training program is open to Bangladeshi citizens aged 18–35 who have completed at least SSC, are physically and mentally fit, and register online on a first-come, first-served basis. A total of 8,850 participants will be trained across 114 batches, including 8,250 young men and 600 young women.
Trainees will receive accommodation, meals, tracksuits, T-shirts, shoes, a training allowance, and an official certificate upon completion. This initiative aims to develop a confident and disciplined young generation that ensures personal safety and contributes positively to society.
