Six people have died from dengue and 1,195 new infections were reported across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Sunday, reports BSS.
“We recorded six dengue-related deaths and 1,195 new cases between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday,” a spokesperson for the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a statement.
According to DGHS data, two of the deaths occurred in areas under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), two in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and two in Barishal district.
Of the newly reported cases, 155 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 132 in Chattogram, 278 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), 115 in DSCC areas, and 220 in DNCC areas. Khulna division reported 114 new cases, Mymensingh 59, Rajshahi 113, and Sylhet nine.
With the latest figures, Bangladesh has recorded 313 dengue deaths and 78,543 infections so far this year.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives and infected 101,214 people nationwide — the highest annual toll on record.
Health officials have urged residents to remain alert and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, especially during the ongoing post-monsoon period when transmission risk remains high.
