BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that those who create division do not believe in consensus. Consensus cannot be achieved by taking to the streets and creating pressure.
He made the remarks while speaking at a book launching ceremony titled “Guideline Recommendations for Building a Developed Nation of the Future” at the CRAB auditorium in the capital on Sunday.
Amir Khasru said that while the Consensus Commission has held discussions on certain issues, some quarters are now raising demands and topics that go beyond the agreed scope.
The representatives of the next parliament will decide what will be passed there, he added.
Criticizing one group’s eagerness to pass everything immediately, Amir Khasru said, “Even after Sheikh Hasina’s departure, undemocratic behavior continues. Those trying to obstruct the election do not believe in democracy.”
He added that despite differences of opinion, the BNP has shown political generosity by coming forward for the restoration of democracy.
“The BNP’s willingness to hold a referendum on election day reflects its political kindness,” he opined.
