As a proclaimer of independence and an unblemished and brave soldier, Ziaur Rahman had widespread support both from the military and the mass people. Due to the support of the people, Ziaur Rahman became the great hero of the November 7 revolution.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this in a message on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day on Friday. He extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to everyone, including the countrymen, on the occasion of the day.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Ziaur Rahman came to the center of power on November 7 through the overall support of the army and the people from all walks of life. The main character of this revolution was the spontaneous support of the army and the people for Ziaur Rahman.”
He said, “November 7 is a historic and unforgettable day in the national life. The political vacuum was filled that day with the uprising of the sepoys and the people on November 7. The people woke up with a new conviction in the combined efforts of the sepoys and the people. We have found the path to multi-party democracy and economic liberation by climbing the ladder of the success of the November 7 revolution.”
The BNP secretary general said the rule of law, freedom of speech, individual and press, and social peace were restored through this revolution. On November 7, the sepoys and the people spontaneously revolted against the deep-rooted conspiracy and plot against the spirit of national independence, including the country, the people, and freedom. Ziaur Rahman was freed from captivity in this revolution. The military and the common people also joined them to strengthen the hands of Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP Secretary General said, “Ziaur Rahman had brought about nationalist politics and put the nation on the highway of development, progress, and prosperity, and that is why the importance of the November 7 revolution in our national life is immense. On this great day, I appeal to everyone, including the countrymen: an elected democratic government has not yet been formed in the country. And that is why there is no alternative to free and fair elections. Although the countrymen breathed a sigh of relief after August 5, there is still a lot of work to be done. The promise of justice, accountability and good governance has not been implemented. People are still losing their lives in extrajudicial killings in different parts of the country. Helpless people are being deprived of legal remedies.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Evil forces are carrying out evil activities to bring down the state Bangladesh. Therefore, inspired by the same spirit in which we united to protect independence and sovereignty on November 7, 1975, we must work together to institutionalize multi-party democracy, establish the benefits of independence like economic freedom, peace and order, equality, justice and human dignity, and forever banish corruption and misrule.”
