Despite a large supply of early winter vegetables, consumers saw no relief as prices of most vegetables rose at the capital’s kitchen market on Friday.
A variety of early winter vegetables, such as beans, bottle gourd, radish, tomato, cucumber, pointed gourd, peas, okra, spiny gourd, sponge gourd, bitter gourd, red amaranth, and spinach, are available in the kitchen market, but their prices remain considerably high.
Saiful Alam, a trader at Mirpur 13 kitchen market, said, “Prices of all varieties have risen by Tk10–20 per kilogram compared to last week.”
He explained that farmers cultivate abundant early winter vegetables to maximise profits, and prices are expected to drop once the full supply of seasonal winter vegetables hits the market.
