Former Shariatpur-1 lawmaker and Awami League (AL) organizing secretary Mozammel Haque was arrested in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon. The arrest took place at the Niketon area around 2:45 PM, confirmed Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), reports BSS.
Mozammel, who has been a prominent figure in the Awami League, is facing charges in four cases, including three murders tied to the July Uprising—a period of violent protests that shook the nation earlier this year. The DMP official confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and further details regarding his alleged role in the murders have yet to be disclosed.
This arrest adds a significant development to the investigation into the July Uprising, where several incidents of violence and unrest were reported in multiple regions of Bangladesh. The authorities are continuing their efforts to uncover the full extent of the individuals involved in these acts of violence.
