Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and part of the interim government delegation led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, came under attack at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport early Tuesday. The members of the US chapter of the banned Awami League reportedly hurled eggs at him.
The incident took place at Terminal 8 of JFK Airport at around 1:00 am (Bangladesh time) on Tuesday.
Regarding the matter, Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of NCP, wrote on her Facebook: “After arriving in the United States today, Akhtar Hossain was attacked. Eggs were thrown at him, and he was subjected to verbal abuse.
“This was not an attack on Akhtar Hossain as a person, but because of his political identity. He represents a party that is continuously working to dismantle the structure of fascism.”
Meanwhile, New York police have arrested a man named Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury from Jackson Heights in connection with the egg-throwing incident targeting Akhtar Hossain at John F. Kennedy Airport.
