BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said, "In the interest of the Prime Minister and the Parliament to effectively run the executive branch of the state, we did not agree with any NCC concept to create any other organ or body within its scope so that it does not disrupt his (the Prime Minister's) activities. This was our condition."
He said this in response to a question at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan this Sunday morning.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, "We have clearly said that there is no precedent in any country in the world for the Prime Minister's term to be fixed so that no dictatorship arises, is produced, or fascism is produced again in the country. Despite this, we have said that according to the decision of the BNP's high-level committee, the Standing Committee, no person will remain in the Prime Minister's seat for more than 10 years."
In response to another question, he said, "We hope we can reach a consensus. Discussions are taking place, but prolong discussion is not desirable. We are hopeful that by discussing this issue with everyone, we will be able to reach a consensus on very important points and constitutional issues.”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and others were also present at the press conference.
