Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said the elections are scheduled to be held in February and BNP will win those elections.
“Many are talking a lot, holding big meetings. But people are ultimately looking at BNP,” he said.
Manna said, “No matter what political parties say or do, BNP's popularity is still the highest among the people in the voting field. That popularity cannot be destroyed through mob culture.”
He said this at a protest rally organized by the Bangladesh Ganajagaran Dal at the National Press Club auditorium on Sunday.
The rally was organized to demand the arrest and trial of Harun and Biplob, accused in the attack on the then opposition chief whip of the parliament, Zainul Abedin Faruque, on July 6, 2011.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, "I am 75 years old. Maybe I will not be alive in 5-10 years. Even if I am healthy now, I want the younger generation to take responsibility. If they give importance to knowledge and intelligence and sincerely want to build the country, then they will be able to build this country anew.”
He said, “We should protest against any injustice. The torture that was done to Zainul Abedin has faded away at some point. But the barbaric killings that Sheikh Hasina carried out while in power - killing 1500 people in 20 days in July-August - cannot be expressed in words. We do not even have the language to express the angst for this incident.”
BNP Chairperson's advisor Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, former MP Lion Md. Harunur Rashid, the organizer’s president Habib Ahmed Ashiq, vice-president Sirajul Islam Monir, Ismail Hossain Siraji and many others also spoke at the protest rally.
