BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that a certain clique is deliberately trying to portray BNP as anti-reform.
He made this remark on Sunday during a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The senior leader said, “Some individuals will continue to spread propaganda against BNP, and the people will believe it? They will not. Some urban people are not the face of the country.”
Mentioning that some parties are questioning BNP’s commitment to reform proposals, he said, “There is no reason to question BNP’s sincerity on reforms.”
After the National Consensus Commission’s proposal, reforms are being delayed by constantly introducing new proposals, he claimed.
However, he added that BNP does not support any proposal that aims to weaken vital institutions of state governance in the name of reform.
“New proposals are coming to us every day. We approve those that serve public interest, and the people too, will welcome such proposals,” he said.
He further noted that no significant changes concerning public interest should be accepted without directly involving the people.
“Those who want to delay the elections are neither pro-democracy nor pro-July-August Uprising,” he added.
At this time, the BNP Secretary General urged all to rise above partisan interests and take part in the nation-building process.
