The issue of holding early elections came up in the talks between Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The US also said that it will continue to support the ongoing reforms, said Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain.
He said this while talking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday. The Foreign Affairs Advisor said that there is no point in arguing with India over the sharing of water from a common river. Bangladesh is trying to resolve it through bilateral talks.
He also said, “Discussions are underway on the issue of establishing a UN Human Rights Office for three years. If both sides agree on this, a final agreement will be made. However, the next government can extend its term if it wants.”
When asked if there is any regret for not being able to bring Sheikh Hasina back, he said, “Regret is a no-date term. I don't know how much regret anyone has. I see it this way; we have written a letter to bring her back. It will be followed up if necessary. That's all.”
