BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie quoted the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman as saying, 'He (Tarique Rahman) has clearly said about the PR system, that many countries in the world have PR systems. But in the context of Bangladesh, it is not possible. If we go for the elections using that PR system at this moment, a major division will be created among ourselves. Fascists will get a big opportunity here.”
He said this while talking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting during the inspection of the voting for the BNP representative election in Dattapara Union of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon. This was organized at the premises of Purba Syedpur Government Primary School in Dattapara Union.
Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said, “The fascist Awami League, who have directly caused of sufferings to you and me, destroyed the country, destroyed the political and social system of the country, will get an opportunity through the PR system. Those who held the administration hostage and destroyed the work that we could not do, those who should not be given that opportunity— should not be given that opportunity. They should face trial first. If the election is held in February, there will be a fair election, and the election festival will be in full swing in the winter season.”
Annie also said, “Everyone should leave their petty interests and come forward to build the country in the larger interest of the country. We believe that everyone is united and hope that the government will form a good election commission from an independent and neutral position and move towards the election. And a government of national consensus against fascism will be formed.”
