The government has declared August 5 a public holiday to honour those who lost their lives in the July Uprising that led to the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government last year.
In a gazette notification issued on Wednesday, the Cabinet Division officially designated the day as July Uprising Day, to be observed annually with due rituals across the country.
Additionally, July 16 has been declared Martyr Abu Sayeed Day in memory of the student killed in police firing during a protest in Rangpur.
