The prosecution has submitted formal charges to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 16 people, including former MP Saiful Islam, over the killing and burning of six people in Ashulia during the July–August mass uprising last year.
The charges were filed by the Office of the Registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday.
The prosecution has named 11 accused in the case in the tribunal.
The accused are: former MP Muhammad Saiful Islam, former Additional Superintendent of Police of Savar Circle Md. Shahidul Islam, former Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District Abdullahil Kafi, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station AFM Sayed (Roni), former Inspector of Dhaka District Detective Branch (DB) North Md. Arafat Hossain, former Sub-Inspector of Ashulia Police Station Abdul Malek, former Sub-Inspector Arafat Uddin, former Sub-Inspector Sheikh Abzalul Haque, former Sub-Inspector Bishwajit Saha, former Sub-Inspector Kamrul Hasan and former Constable Mukul Chokder.
Of these 11 accused, 8 are arrested and in jail. Of these, seven were produced before the tribunal on Wednesday.
The charge sheet was filed in the case of the burning of the bodies of 6 people after the killing in Ashulia on August 5 during the July–August mass uprising.
