The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning across all divisions, including Dhaka, in the 24 hours from 9am on Wednesday.
“Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions,” according to a met office update.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, according to the BMD.
All maritime ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no 3 during the period.
The country’s highest temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Feni over the past 24 hours till 6pm on Tuesday while the lowest temperature of 24.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Tangail till 6am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over Jharkhand and its adjoining regions has weakened and merged with the monsoon axis. The monsoon trough now extends from Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal to Assam, crossing the southern part of Bangladesh.
An associated trough also stretches into the North Bay.
Monsoon activity remains fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over the North Bay, added the bulletin.
