Press Secretary describes his future political position

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has expressed his opinion on whether he will join politics in the future. Shafiqul shared his views in a post on his verified Facebook account on Wednesday.

In his status, Shafiqul Alam wrote, “There are some speculations over my post-Interim future. I heard from some of my friends that I was joining a top political party or a newly launched party after my stint as a Press Secretary. Honestly speaking, I don't have any crush on any political parties or the kind of lifestyle you embrace once you become an MP or a big shot in a political party.  Unlike places in Singapore and Europe, political leadership doesn't offer a handsome financial package -- unless you are a corrupt person.”

He also said, “I have decided I am not going to join any political party in a post-Interim period. I would like to return to journalism and an active writing career. I have some books in mind. I could even spend the rest of my life writing exclusively on the July uprising. I have never seen such a spontaneous, brave, beautiful and widespread political struggle in my life. Robert Caro spent his whole life writing on his favourite subject: Lyndon B Johnson. Same way, a writer can spend his whole life writing on the July revolution (I know some people don't like the R word).”

“Will I be safe in a new metamorphosis in my late life? Over the last few months, I've got an enormous amount of threats from the BAL activists. But maybe these were rants from some hopeless people who have lost the last vestige of popularity among our people. I have full faith in Allah the Almighty. He created us and to whom we would return. I look forward to my post-Interim life,” continued the press secretary.
