National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam on Tuesday said the July movement was not waged only to bring about a change in power politically.
“The students and people did not shed blood on the streets to replace one fascist regime with another,” he said while inaugurating the party’s month-long “Desh Gorte July Padajatra (July March to Build the Nation)" campaign in Gaibandha.
Commemorating the 2024 July Uprising anniversary, the NCP earlier announced to hold the campaign across the country this month.
At a rally held on the premises of Shaheed Minar in the Gaibandha Municipal Park area, the NCP leader said that although the July movement gave birth to a new country, the task of nation-building has remained unfinished.
“The journey of building the country begins from Gaibandha. We have taken to the streets to build a new nation where the people irrespective of their religion and caste will express opinions freely and speak about their rights.”
Urging all to raise their voices against injustice and inequality, Nahid said the July movement shattered fear and taught the people to speak out boldly.
Earlier in the morning, NCP leaders offered prayers at the grave of martyr Abu Sayed in Pirganj of Rangpur.
