Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Abdul Momen has said that evidence of irregularities and corruption has been found in the appointment of consultants for the Padma Bridge project.
In this context, he said, “The case was closed despite sufficient evidence. The investigation that began last January has already found evidence of irregularities and corruption in the appointment of consultants for the Padma Bridge.”
He said this while talking to reporters at the ACC office on Tuesday.
The ACC chairman said, “The then ACC had acquitted the accused in the Padma Bridge corruption case by force. However, several pieces of information about corruption have been found. It is also being investigated whether the then commission was responsible for the acquittal of the accused in this case.”
He said that if anyone is found involved in the new investigation, they will also be brought under the law.
After a long decade of settling the case regarding the appointment of Padma Bridge consultants, the ACC decided to re-investigate the case last January. A high-level committee was formed.
In 2012, the ACC filed a case against seven people alleging corruption amid tensions over World Bank funding for the Padma Bridge. However, in 2014, the then commission closed the case for unknown reasons.
