July Oikyo, an alliance of organisations formed based on the 2024 July uprising, held a rally on Monday titled “March for July Revives”, marching from the Jatiya Press Club to Shahbagh on Tuesday morning.
From the rally, they demanded a fascism-free mass media, the trial of what they called mass killer and ‘Indian proxy Hasina’, as well as the announcement of the July Charter and Proclamation.
AB Zubayer, an organiser of the alliance, said they would do anything to revive the July uprising.
“Where is the sense of responsibility of those who have taken responsibility by standing on the blood of thousands of martyrs? They can’t fulfil our basic needs, are unable to make basic reforms, have failed in the trial of mass killing and are still unable to announce the July Proclamation even after one year of the uprising. What does the interim do?” he questioned+.
“We know that the interim authority initially tried. But they lost their way after falling under the influence of the so-called civil society figures. Now they have moved far away from the spirit of July. That is why, even after the uprising, the old system remains in place. A little time is still left. Give state recognition to the mandate of July, hold a fair election, and step down,” Zubayer added.
Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad said, “Some advisers to the government took bribes and appointed pro-Awami League men as deputy commissioners. Fascist collaborators are being rehabilitated in various sectors. Just as the Awami League monopolised the Liberation War, in the same way, ‘Chhatra Shokti’ has monopolised the 24’ uprising - it was not allowed to become a movement of the masses. Boycott those who have started a business centring July.”
He said, “We will not accept any arbitrary declaration in the name of the July Declaration. We want constitutional recognition of the July Declaration.”
At the event, Musaddiq also announced a month-long programme.
