The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City hosted a vibrant cultural programme on Sunday marking the Bengali New Year 1432, the 164th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the 126th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam and an Eid-ul-Azha reunion with the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Mexico.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqur Fazal Ansari welcomed guests at the event, expressing gratitude for their presence and continued support in upholding the cultural heritage of Bangladesh abroad, according to a press release received on Monday.
During the cultural segment, the Ambassador mesmerised the audience with his recitation of Tagore's timeless poem "1400 Sal" and a reading from Kazi Nazrul Islam's essay "Rajbandir Jabanbandi," adding a unique literary depth to the programme.
The event featured captivating performances of Bengali songs by two young artists, whose melodious renditions touched the hearts of all present.
Ambassador Ansari also highlighted the embassy's upcoming plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-Mexico diplomatic relations and invited the Bangladeshi community to actively participate in the events.
As part of the celebrations, guests were treated to traditional Bangladeshi cuisine and sweets, while the embassy premises were adorned with elements reflecting the rural heritage of Bangladesh, creating a familiar atmosphere for the community.
"Even while living abroad, we continue to uphold our cultural heritage. Through such programmes, we aim to spread the spirit and values of Bengal among the younger generations growing up in Latin America," Ambassador Ansari said at the closing of the event.
The programme was attended by members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Mexico and local dignitaries.
