BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said people are eagerly waiting for the Election Day and democracy will be saved if elections are held in February.
“So, no matter how many obstacles and dangers there are, elections must be held by February. There is no compromise on this,” said Dudu.
He said this at a discussion meeting titled 'July-August Mass Uprising: Expectations and Achievements' organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Sunday.
Shamsuzzaman Dudu said, “To those who are saying one thing in the morning, one thing in the afternoon and another thing in the evening, I would say - let us all participate in the elections. We will sit down and resolve the errors and blunders that remain. And the party that the people vote for will form the government. Let us all fight unitedly.”
He said, “Those who oppose dictatorship expect democracy. And those who want to destroy democracy, they directly or indirectly support dictatorship. But the only way to bring democracy is through elections. And if that election is ignored, make controversial, then indirectly they become a party to dictatorship.”
He also said, “Elections must be held. The people of the country love BNP. The reason why they love BNP is that they did not compromise with dictatorship. They did not compromise with Hasina. Begum Zia risked her life. She cannot be called just the leader of BNP anymore. She has gone above everything now. When she speaks, the people of the country are reassured. And Allah has protected Tarique Rahman. He was tortured during 1/11, but Allah has protected him.”
This BNP leader said, “I do not know if there has ever been an election in this country in April. Not even in June. So when it is coming in February, it can be said that everyone has supported it. That is why I also congratulated and thanked BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman and Dr. Yunus.”
The discussion meeting was presided over by Humayun Kabir Bepari, president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party. Also present at the time were former cabinet secretary Abdul Halim, advisor to the BNP Chairperson, BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, BNP National Executive Committee member Babul Ahmed, president of the Civil Rights Implementation Council SM Mizanur Rahman, president of the Nationalist Liberation War Generation Kalam Fayzi, president of the Liberation War Generation Syed Mozammel Hossain Shahin, journalist Asaduzzaman Babul, general secretary of the Nationalist Cultural Party M Ahmed Khan Montu and deputy general secretary Maznur Rahman.
