BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday said the dreams of the nation's martyrs must be fulfilled by bringing about a change in government.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Rizvi said the party will launch a fresh program from July 1 to August 6 in observance of the historic July mass uprising. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to take part in the initiatives, he added. As part of the observance, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will place floral tributes at the Shaheed Minar at midnight on June 30.
“The July upsurge was about more than elections and seizing power,” Rizvi said. “Though we may differ on certain issues, all democratic parties must unite for the sake of the country. We must come to power to materialize the dreams of those who gave their lives for democracy.”
He accused the current government of destabilizing the nation and failing to ensure public safety. Referring to the recent rape incident in Muradnagar, Comilla, Rizvi alleged that an Awami League leader was involved in the crime, yet the government was attempting to blame the BNP.
“I regret to say the victim was from a Hindu family, and the crime was heinous,” Rizvi said. “Sheikh Hasina may stay silent, but her allies are active, engaging in such acts across the country. They are building a corrupt network with illegal wealth to destabilize the country. The government has failed to act swiftly, and this has emboldened wrongdoers.”
He demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the Muradnagar incident.
Several BNP leaders were present at the event, including Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, Member Secretary of the July-August Mass Upsurge, Mourning and Victory Anniversary Observance Committee. Others in attendance included Amra Paribar Convener Atiqur Rahman Rumon, and Rafiqul Islam.
