BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zainul Abdin Faruque has urged Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to hold the upcoming national election before the holy month of Ramadan, calling for swift action to restore public trust and uphold democratic principles.
Speaking at a discussion held at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Faruque said, “The people are frustrated with the continuous delays. There must be no more excuses—elections must take place before Ramadan. After the recent London meeting, the situation is clearer, and there should be no room for conspiracy.”
Faruque referenced a historic example to support his call, noting that “after the fall of the Ershad regime, Justice Shahabuddin held elections within three months. The current chief adviser should follow that precedent and set a strong example before the nation.”
Emphasizing the importance of national development through education, Faruque added, “A fair election will allow us to prioritize the education sector. Without advancing education, the country cannot progress.”
Criticizing the current administration, Faruque alleged that the education system has been severely damaged under the leadership of Education Minister Dipu Moni. “There are no words to describe how Sheikh Hasina and her father have destroyed the system. Those who claimed to champion democracy have ignored the collapse of education,” he said.
