Former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs) Rakib, Huda and Awal were destroyers of democracy and they should be tried, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He made this comment while announcing the party's program at a press conference in Nayapaltan in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
Rizvi said, "We will not let people be humiliated. If someone commits a crime, he should be given a proper trial." Former CECs Nurul Huda, Rakib Uddin Ahmed and Habibul Awal have destroyed the country's democracy. They tried to perpetuate Sheikh Hasina's power by destroying the country's democratic institutions. For this, they must be tried. Of course, it must be legally.”
He said, "We will not follow the path shown by Sheikh Hasina; rather we will follow the path of democracy, the path of law. This is why we have been fighting for 16 years. We will not take the law into our own hands. Why should we throw stones or eggs at someone, or tie a chain of shoes around their neck? Even if they belong to another party, their crimes must be judged fairly.”
