The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet Thursday to determine the date of Ashura by reviewing reports on the sighting of the Muharram moon for the Hijri year 1447.
According to a media release, the meeting will be held at 7pm at the Islamic Foundation's conference room in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain will preside over the meeting, the release added.
If the moon of the holy month of Muharram is sighted anywhere in the country’s sky, people are requested to inform the authorities by calling the following numbers: 02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916, and 02-41050917. Reports can also be sent via fax to 02-223383397 or 02-9555951, or by informing the respective deputy commissioners or upazila nirbahi officers.
