Education Ministry advisor professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar (CR Abrar) said there is no reason to think that education commission will solve all problems in the education sector.
“Not only discussions, but also effective steps with a specific time frame are needed to reform the education sector,” he said.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'Budget 2025-26: Education and Employment' organized by the 'Dhaka University Center on Budget and Policy' at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of Dhaka University on Tuesday.
Advisor professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said, “We have limitations in time and resources. Besides, lack of responsibility and lack of proper planning are putting us in the face of various challenges. A large part of the loan we are getting from abroad is being spent on repaying previous loans. Bangladesh is going through such a situation year after year. In such a situation, it is not possible to provide the necessary allocation to priority areas including the education sector.”
He further said that there is no reason to think that all the problems of the education sector will be solved by the Education Commission. It is necessary to take effective steps with a specific time frame, not just discussions, in the reform of the education sector.
Stressing the importance of using technology in education and translating books in different languages for higher education in Bengali, he said, “We are determined to ensure quality education. He called on everyone to cooperate from their respective positions in this regard.”
The program was presided over by Dhaka University treasurer and chairman of the Center on Budget and Policy, professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Vice-chancellor of the university, professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, deputy vice-chancellor (administration) professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences professor Dr. Taiyebur Rahman and director general of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr. AK Enamul Haque spoke at the program.
