BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the party stands firmly against the culture of mob justice, and if any party member is found to be involved in the recent incident involving former Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, the matter will be investigated and disciplinary action will be taken.
Salahuddin Ahmed shared the party’s official stance with the media on Monday in this regard.
“We do not believe in mob culture,” he said. “We are continuously struggling to establish the rule of law in this country. We want to see a legal system where justice prevails, court verdicts are respected, and transparency is ensured throughout the judicial process.”
“Therefore,” he continued, “we expect that any allegations against former CEC Nurul Huda, his arrest, and trial process will be conducted lawfully and appropriately. However, we do not support the disrespectful treatment he received. That incident is isolated. If any BNP member is found involved, the party will carry out an investigation and take disciplinary measures accordingly—this is our position.”
Salahuddin added, “No matter how serious the crime, every individual deserves to enjoy their legal and constitutional rights. Those rights must not be violated under any circumstances.”
On Sunday night, a group of people surrounded KM Nurul Huda’s residence in Uttara, placed a shoe garland around his neck, and harassed him—a video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
Referring to Nurul Huda’s controversial tenure, the BNP leader said, “Nurul Huda is among those responsible for destroying democracy in Bangladesh and completely dismantling the electoral system. A few individuals, including him, are accountable for enabling Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime by compromising and corrupting key constitutional institutions.”
He concluded by stating, “Just like former Chief Justice Khairul Haque, others too played a role in this degradation. But we as a party do not endorse such toxic practices—we categorically reject mob culture.”
