BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said that BNP wants to go back to 5th amendment as far as fundamental constitutional principles of the country are concerned.
“If we go back to the 5th amendment, we will have no objection,” he said adding it will enshrine equality, human dignity, democracy and social justice in the Constitution.” he said.
Salahuddin said this at a press briefing after the fifth-day of the discussion of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
National Consensus Commission’s Vice-Chairman Prof Dr Ali Riaz chaired the discussion while members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Md Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar were present.
Thirty two political parties, including BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens Party (NCP), Gano Odhikar Parishad, Biplobi Workers Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party participated in Sunday's discussions.
