The court has ordered to seize two plots in Purbachal and Uttara belong to former Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman due to ongoing corruption allegations.
The court has also ordered the freezing of Tk 128.774 million belonging to Shamim Osman, his wife Salma Osman, son Imtinan Osman, daughter Labiba Joha Angana, daughter-in-law Irfana Ahmed Rashmi and 29 bank accounts related to his interests.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib issued this order on Sunday following the ACC's application. On this day, ACC’s deputy director Rezaul Karim applied for the seizing and freezing of these assets.
ACC's assistant director (Public Relations) Tanjir Ahmed confirmed this information to the media.
The petition states that the accused is planning to sell immovable assets and withdraw and transfer money from bank accounts while absconding. In the interest of proper investigation of the complaint, these assets need to be seized and frozen as per Rule 18 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007 (Amended Rules 2019) and Section 14 of the Money Laundering Act, 2012.
