BNP National Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that everyone is relieved about the probable election date in February next year.
Mentioning that differences of opinion between political parties are obvious, he said, “We must work on issues where there is consensus.”
He made the statements in press briefing following a meeting between US Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
The senior BNP leader said, “Discussions about the possible election date in February are a relief not only for Bangladesh, but also for friendly countries.”
He said the US is viewing the meeting between Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman ‘with importance'. The discussions also touched upon the tariffs imposed by the US on Bangladesh.
Mr Khasru said that discussions were also held on reforms and the ‘July Charter’, adding, “Even if there is no consensus on all issues, we will move forward with the issues on which there is consensus.”
He also said, “There was no chance to file a lawsuit for so long. Now, cases have been filed against those in charge during the last three illegally conducted elections.”
