The leaders of the protesting government officials and employees have issued the government a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the repeal of the Government Services (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
They announced that they will hold a blockade program at the Finance Ministry from Sunday if their demands are not met within this period.
The Secretariat officials and employees have been protesting for the fourth consecutive day. Their protest is demanding the repeal of the Government Services (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 and they have been protesting in front of the Secretariat since Thursday morning.
The protesters raised slogans like 'In my golden Bengal, there is no place for discrimination', 'It has woken up, the Secretariat has woken up'.
Officers and employees at various levels had been objecting to the draft ordinance to amend the Government Services Act, 2018. That is why they joined the protest. The government issued the ordinance on the night of May 25 amid the employees' protest. According to the ordinance, four types of disciplinary offenders can be dismissed without a departmental case, simply by issuing a show cause notice.
