Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam on Wednesday asked the police personnel to take mental preparations to present the nation a fair and neutral election and perform their duties with utmost sincerity, reports BSS.
"Get mentally preparation to present a fair and impartial election to the people," he said at the monthly crime review meeting of the DMP for May-2025 at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the capital.
Asking the police personnel to perform their duties with topmost dedication, the police chief said, "Every police member must perform their duties assigned to them with sincerity and dedication."
Describing the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as an important unit of the Bangladesh Police, he said that people of the country expect excellent service and professionalism from the unit.
"One must always be alert and ready while performing mobile duty, guard duty and diplomatic duties under their respective police station areas," he said.
The Police Chief also asked his subordinates not to use mobile phone while performing duties.
He opined that crime control and public safety are closely related to the responsibilities of the police.
Speaking on the occasion, DMP Commissioner SM Sajjad Ali said the people should be presented with a successful election in a free, fair, and festive atmosphere in the interest of the nation, regardless of party affiliation.
"Perform the electoral duties with cent percent impartiality for the welfare of the people. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will always be ready to face any challenge during the election," he said.
The DMP chief stressed the need for mobilizing greater efforts to apprehend more criminals.
"The arrest rate should be further increased by identifying criminals based on intelligence information. All police members, including DB police, should perform their duties more effectively to ensure the safety of the city's residents," he said.
Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Faruk Ahmed asked the police personnel to be vigilant about the activities of banned political parties and possible sabotage.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam, PPM, said the work of officers at the field level should be expedited.
"Moreover, information about tenants should be updated and included in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) quickly," he said.
The cases related to the July movement should be properly investigated and disposed of promptly, he said, adding that police stations should remain alert and vigilant to prevent sudden processions.
At the meeting, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented the overall crime situation for May 2025, including information related to various cases such as robbery, banditry, theft, burglary, murder, accidental death, road accidents, abuse of women and children, rape, and the recovery of drugs and weapons.
