The government has issued an ordinance with provisions for imprisonment and fines for anyone who obtains benefits by providing false information, falsely claiming to be injured or a family member of a July Uprising martyr.
According to the provisions in the 'Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs of the July Uprising and July Fighters Ordinance, 2025', one will be handed down a maximum two-year jail and fine of Tk 200,000 or double of the amount of the benefit or financial assistance received if found guilty, reports BSS.
The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs published the gazette Tuesday night.
It will come into effect immediately, the gazette said.
The ordinance includes the provision of one-time and monthly financial aid payments to the injured and martyrs who have contribution to dislodge the Awami League government.
The ordinance was enacted with the aim of establishing the essence and ideals of the July Uprising in state and national life, including the welfare and rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and July fighters, and preserving history.
