The National Consensus Commission resumed its dialogue on Wednesday, marking the second day of talks with various political parties. Jamaat-e-Islami, which skipped the first day, joined the discussions, sending central leaders Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, and Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher to represent the party, reports UNB.
The session, which began at 11:29 AM at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, was chaired by the Commission’s Vice-Chairman, Professor Ali Riaz.
When asked about Jamaat’s absence from the previous day's session, Rafiqul Islam Khan told reporters, “I’ll explain the reason later – not now.”
Wednesday’s agenda focused on wrapping up unfinished discussions from earlier sessions, as well as debating the formation of the proposed National Constitutional Council (NCC) and setting a framework for the upcoming presidential election.
Along with the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), several other political entities participated in the session, including the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Nagorik Oikya, Gono Adhikar Parishad, and Gonosonghoti Andolon.
The ongoing talks are aimed at fostering a broader political consensus on critical constitutional and electoral issues, which are pivotal to the nation’s political landscape. The Commission announced that discussions would continue on Thursday, June 19.
