Syed Ahmed Maroof, Pakistan’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, will not be returning to Dhaka as he will be replaced by Imran Haider, who is currently serving as Pakistan’s high commissioner to Myanmar.
Maroof has been recalled to Islamabad after serving in Dhaka for nearly one and a half years.
The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka has already informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the appointment of Imran Haider. A senior official at the ministry confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, according to a report by Pakistan’s news outlet The Daily Spokesman, Imran Haider has been appointed as the new high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh.
A report in the Daily Jang of Pakistan stated that Maroof has concluded his diplomatic assignment in Bangladesh and has returned to Pakistan. He is currently in Pakistan.
Syed Ahmed Maroof took charge as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh in December 2023. In May 2025, he suddenly left Dhaka on a two-week leave, which sparked various speculations.
Before his departure, the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka sent a letter to the foreign ministry stating that Maroof would resume his duties upon completion of his leave.
