BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, during the lunch break of the second phase of the second meeting with the National Consensus Commission, told the reporters that four out of the 50 standing committees in the next parliament have been allocated to the opposition party and all political parties agreed on this.
Everyone agreed on the decision of the National Consensus Commission to give the chairmanship posts of four important parliamentary standing committees - Public Accounts, Privileges, Estimates and Public Undertakings - to the opposition party in its meeting on Tuesday, he informed.
Regarding the remaining standing committees, the BNP leader said, “not only these four committees, but also the remaining committees will have specific places for the opposition party on a proportional basis based on majority.”
“In addition, Article 70 of the Constitution, which provides for the cancellation of membership if one votes against one’s own party, also provides for the freedom of members of parliament to vote on any issue other than the vote of confidence and the money bill,” he said.
However, the BNP has expressed its opinion that voting against the party on the two issues of war situation and national security will not be possible.
In this regard, Salahuddin said, "The BNP has decided to remain steadfast on these two issues. If we are elected, these two issues will also be added to Article 70."
Regarding the 100 reserved seats for women, Salahuddin said, "Most political parties agree on this issue. However, there is disagreement on how the election system will be. Hopefully, a solution can be reached on this issue after today's discussion."
In addition, he said that the separate manifesto of each political party will be given importance along with the July Charter.
