Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government and in charge of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, said he does not see anything to panic about the Coronavirus.
He also said that a special team is working to deal with dengue.
He told this to the reporters after visiting the National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital and the National Chest Diseases Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali in the capital on Monday.
Dr. Sayedur Rahman said, "We are testing corona samples through three means. We have set up dedicated hospitals and dedicated units in various hospitals for treatment. The current preparedness of the Health Ministry in terms of diagnosis and treatment is sufficient according to the patient load and the global situation."
In response to a question about dengue, he said, "The rate of dengue infection is high in Barisal and Dhaka. The local government's mosquito control activities have not been as expected. As a result, the outbreak of dengue has increased. Our special team is working in places where dengue cases are high. Our guidelines are also being updated.”
He said, “We saw two national institutes today. Among them, there is a lot of modern management in gastro liver. There is satisfaction among the patients and no major errors. There is a plan for liver transplant there. That is mainly why I was interested in seeing it. I talked to the surgeons. There is adequate manpower and equipment here.”
Dr. Sayedur Rahman said, “There are structural weaknesses in the Chest Disease Institute. Long-term development is needed by targeting the old buildings. This institution has not received the importance it was supposed to receive. However, there is a huge shortage of manpower. Efforts will be made to keep the remaining floors of the Chest Disease Institute operational amid the limitations.”
