During the Eid holidays, a total toll of at least Tk 59,77,29,050 crore was collected from the country's two longest bridges — the Padma and the Jamuna.
"We have seen maximum motor vehicles crossing Padma and Jamuna bridges on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha holidays," informed Bridge Division Secretary M Abdur Rouf, reports BSS.
He said that electronic toll collection (ETC) was also introduced on the bridges aimed at reducing time for vehicle crossing the bridges.
"We have also signed MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with six firms so that vehicles can cross the bridges swiftly with paying toll through apps," the secretary said.
According to sources,the Padma and Jamuna bridges recorded their highest-ever daily toll collection and vehicle crossings on June 5.
The Padma Multi-Purpose Bridge authority has collected the highest Taka 5,43,28,000 as toll on June 5, while Taka 4,10,80,950 was collected from Jamuna bridge on the same day.
On June 5, 52,487 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge as Jamuna Bridge saw passing 64,283 vehicles.
