Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, on Saturday said that while regular field police will continue to be equipped with standard rifles, they will not be provided with heavy lethal weapons.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the headquarters of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in Dhaka, the Home Adviser stated that specialized units such as the APBN would be equipped with heavy weaponry as part of the government's ongoing modernization efforts.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the government is working on the overall development of law enforcement agencies, including the APBN and police stations.
Claiming that the law and order situation has improved considerably in the last 11 months of the interim government, the Home Adviser said that the countrymen celebrated this Eid peacefully except for one or two minor incidents.
