A luxury Land Cruiser Prado, believed to belong to slain Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar, was found parked inside a garage of an eight-storey building in Kushtia town early Tuesday.
Locals alerted police after spotting the vehicle — a black Prado bearing Dhaka Metro-Gha-12-6060 number plate — parked at Safina Tower, a high-rise located opposite of the Kushtia Superintendent of Police’s office.
A team from Kushtia Model Police Station reached the scene around midnight.
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector Swapan of Kushtia Model Police Station said, “We recovered documents, an MP sticker and a CIP sticker from the vehicle. Preliminary evidence suggests it belonged to the late MP Anwarul Azim Anar. Legal steps will follow upon further investigation. The vehicle will be taken into police custody.”
According to locals, the Prado had been parked in the building’s garage for several months. The documents recovered from the vehicle reportedly bear Anar’s name.
Eyewitness Sabbir said the man who handed over the documents and stickers to police is known to have previously worked as a driver for Azgar Ali, general secretary of the Kushtia district Awami League. “The papers clearly show the vehicle is registered in the name of Anwarul Azim Anar. We demand a proper investigation into how this car ended up here,” he added.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain said an investigation is underway to verify the ownership of the Prado and to find out who brought the vehicle to Kushtia and under what circumstances.
