A 23-kilometre stretch of the Dhaka-Tangail highway is experiencing intermittent traffic congestion due to a surge in Eid holiday travel, worsened by several accidents and vehicle breakdowns.
The congestion, which began on early Thursday, spans from the Jamuna Bridge to the Rabna Bypass causing significant delays for northbound travellers.
Drivers and passengers reported that from midnight, traffic jams began on the northbound lane from Pakulla to Tangail. A 23-kilometer traffic jam has formed from Rabna Bypass to the Jamuna Bridge on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, causing significant suffering for travellers.
Hundreds of vehicles are stuck in the jam, affecting passengers of all ages, including children. Over a hundred trucks carrying cattle are also trapped.
Elenga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sharif stated that the traffic jam stretches from Elenga to the Jamuna Bridge, originating at the toll plaza.
However, joint efforts by the army and police are helping to ease the congestion, and traffic on the highway is gradually returning to normal.
