Chittagong Awami League (AL) leader Alhaj Gias Uddin was arrested at the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after returning from the United States.
The immigration police arrested him in the wake of a case filed at Mirsarai Police Station in Chittagong early Friday.
Gias Uddin is the former vice-president of Chittagong North District Awami League and former chairman of Mirsarai Upazila Parishad.
Mirsarai Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman said that Awami League leader Gias Uddin was arrested by the airport immigration police early Friday. A police team has left for Dhaka to bring him from there. There are five cases against him at the police station.
